What is a Diving Medical Statement?

Every scuba diver knows that completing a Diving Medical Statement is part of diving these days, just as important as filling up the tanks with air. But why do we have to fill out what feels like an endless amount of paperwork just for a little fun underwater?

So what is the Medical Statement?

The Diving Medical Statement was created in 1989 by The Recreational Scuba Training Council (RSTC) primarily to ensure the safety of the scuba diver and to help the diving shops to determine, whether that individual can be taken underwater or not.
